Certainly, in life, there are some things that are one of a kind and there’s really nothing else quite like it. We all have to agree that SoShi Bond is one of those things.
Though SoShi Bond is sometimes used when we’re talking about two or more members interacting with each other, SoShi Bond usually refers to when our girls are together as 9; the moment they’re in harmony and become one. It’s something that only our girls have and it makes them stand out from others.
We know Girls’ Generation is not just a group of 9 girls, they’re more than that. They’re more than co-workers and beyond best friends. They’re like a family. They look out for each other, they depend on each other, and more importantly, they complete each other. If you think about it, each member has her different charms, strengths, and weaknesses. When they’re together, they’re able to balance out and make up for each other’s flaws. There’s Jessica’s gentleness to make up for Yuri’s toughness, Hyoyeon’s quirkiness to make up for maknae’s inflexibility, Sooyoung’s long legs to make up for Sunny’s shortness, Yoona’s innocence to make up for Taeyeon’s byuntaeness, Tiffany’s wildness to make up for Jessica’s calmness, and vice versa.
When we talk about the SoShi Bond they have, nothing is on par with its strength. Its strength is beyond imagination. It’s stronger than any chemical or ionic bond; it’s unbreakable. Many of us see other groups out there and we see them lose a member, gain a member, or even break up, but our girls are an exception. Through thick and thin, our girls have stuck together and persevered for almost 4 years now. Whatever they encounter, whether it is difficulties or joy, they have overcome and shared it together. Yoona once said, “Happiness is doubled when you share them together and sadness is halved when you share them together.” For Girls’ Generation, happiness is always nonupled and sadness is divided into nine-folds. It’s a beautiful fact we can’t deny.
Additionally, nothing is quite like SoShi Bond’s impact. It’s the reason behind our girls’ success today. If there’s no teamwork or chemistry in a group, you’re probably bound to fail, but our girls have bothgood chemistry and teamwork entailed in their bond. With their talented and dedicated team, they’re able to work together to deliver results and we have witness them ourselves–setting a record with 9 consecutive wins on Music Bank, being the first-ever Korean girl group to top the Oricon Chart on the day of original album release, grabbing the top of the Oricon Weekly Album Chart with a total of 232,000 copies sold in its first week of release, being the first-ever Korean girl group to be certified “Double Platinium” with 500,000 copies of their 1st Japanese album sold, etc.
Sooyoung pointed out before that only together as 9 was she able to come this far in her career and accomplish so much; “I did have some hard times back then [in Japan]. When I was there, I took the underground trains. If I wanted to be on a TV show, I had to go in advance to meet the producers and audition for them. Now, our schedule just fills up by itself. When we arrive at the airport, there are cars waiting for us. So when I went [to Japan] this time, I felt humbled. What I couldn’t do back then has become possible because I’m together with these eight.”
We can also say that SoShi Bond is the reason why our girls have fans of an exceptional multitude today as well. Many have been drawn to Girls’ Generation solely because of their bond. Every time we see SoShi Bond, we can’t help but find it admirable, right? It’s beautiful. It warms our hearts. It elicits our emotions. It makes our day. And we like this about our girls.
It’s something that keeps our girls together and is both precious to SONES and them.
“…If there’s one thing that won’t change, it’s the fact that from the beginning to the end SNSD was “one” with 9 members” - SNSD
“I don’t think SNSD as a group will ever be broken apart. Even if after many years have gone by. Even after we get married.” – Taeyeon
“I wish SNSD’s way down can be more beautiful than anyone else’s and that we will enjoy what we have right now. I wish we would all do things with a positive mind.” – Jessica
“For me, each of SNSD members is like my own body. If one gets hurts or hears bad things from someone else, it hurts me and pains me even more. And you know, it’s impossible for only good things to happen to someone, so there will always be difficult and hurtful times; but during these times, I’m thankful that we’re each other’s supports and each other’s strength. I hope in the future, we’ll continue to lean on each other and be strong for each other. Also, when we need encouragement, we’ll continue to look for each other too.” – Sunny
“In a family, we encounter happiness but also sadness, or good things but also bad things. However, let’s be together forever until the end.” – Tiffany
“The nine of us being together is more important than anything else.” – Hyoyeon
“We can only shine brightest as SNSD when SNSD stands on one stage as nine.” – Yuri
“Like a mirror, I look right into their eyes, and they reflect me.” – Sooyoung
“Nine different people gathered and became like a family. To me, it is a very meaningful tie.” – Yoona
“We firmly believe in the power of unity and feel that it is easier to get pass hardships and challenges as a team. This gels us and keeps us strong.” – Seohyun
For me, I’m proud to be a SONE because of the SoShi Bond our girls have. It never ceases to amaze me; 9 girls becoming one. To celebrate for our girls’ 4th anniversary coming up, I made a tribute to SoShi Bond.
I hope Girls’ Generation will continue to persevere for a long time <3

You don’t notice it after a while. You don’t have to always be thinking about it. It’s not always on your mind, but when you remember that it’s still there, you realize that it’s truly and forever part of your life. As one feels the pain of the needle over and over again, they eventually become more and more accustom to it. Our brains eventually learn to accept it. I wouldn’t be surprised if others agree with me when I say that my eyes bulged out like tennis balls when I first saw the price of SNSD’s first Japanese single, Gee. I remember the tiny pool of regret filling inside me as I reached into my wallet in exchange for a CD with one song in it. My wallet was in pain with me. But now, after buying so much more of their merchandise, I have learned to accept it. Just like the pain of the needle. Because I know I won’t regret it. And I know that, in the long run, the support I unconditionally give the girls won’t come out in vain. Now, whenever something new from the girls is released, I dish out the money barely thinking about the aftermath. It’s because they are just so worth it. For me now, keeping up with the latest release is like saying “oh shoot, we are out of potatoes. Better go out and buy more”, but translated into “oh shoot, my Soshi collection won’t be complete anymore without this. Better go pre-order that DVD”. Like a black or colorful mark that’s engraved itself onto our bodies, we realize that SNSD has become etched upon our lives. Like a tattoo, you don’t always notice it and you may even forget it’s there sometimes, but when you remember its presence, you realize you’re happy it’s a part of your life. And you’re happy about the choices you’ve made. About the paths you’ve chosen to embark throughout your journey in life. - Credit: FrozenArctic@SNSDKorean
Self-expression. Tattoos are an extension of personal style and freedom of speech. Our love for SNSD doesn’t have to be colorfully engraved on our bodies physically, but in a certain way, the fandom and all that it has to offer has become a part of our lives. Remember all the countless number of times we have openly expressed our love for the girls, and spazzed at or with people we barely know about something that has taken up a great portion of our lives. Of course, each and every one of us has priorities that are more important than a fandom, and it becomes easy to lose ourselves in daily activities and work. Sometimes, we are so caught up in our lives that we don’t even think about SNSD for a single minute. But during those little moments of blissful free time, many busy Sones will catch up on Soshi news, listen to their songs, watch one of their newly released variety show episodes, or spazz with a fellow fan.
The pain. A needle is pricking itself into your skin and the loud buzzing noise swamps your mind. You close your eyes and wait as the minutes slowly tick away. The brain is signaling you to feel the pain, but you bear with it. It’s not that bad. Imagine, if getting a tattoo was unbelievably painful, no one would ever want a second one. This is just like the Soshi fandom. If people didn’t think the girls were worth it, why would Sones pre-order albums like madmen every time there is a new release or line up many hours in advance before a big concert? Why? Because SNSD is worth it. Yuri would call it “cute pain”. Pain which we would gladly feel over and over again because weknow that something good can come out of it. The members’ feet are calloused and ache from running in heels during their three hour long concert. The fans’ feet ache as they make their way home from standing and cheering for the entire night. But when SNSD exit the stage and Sones exit the arena, we are left with the most exquisite feelings in the world. Indeed, we are all but drained, but we couldn’t be happier. It’s like the feeling after the artist has finished your tattoo. You look in the mirror and you’re in love. The sharp lines, perfect writing and wonderful shading makes one forget about the pain. When you place the jabbing and aching next to the amazing work of art on your body, you realize that the pain is insignificant. That the pain can’t even compare to the amazing results you have just obtained.
Reoccurring again. Many people don’t stop after getting their first tattoo. They adore the freedom of expression that comes out of each design that decorates their bodies. The very same parallel can be drawn on Sones as well. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who found out about SNSD through a youtube video of one of their MVs, and despite the fact that I barely knew anything about the nine girls or the Soshibond at all, I had a good feeling that I wanted them to be a part of my life. I, like many other people in this world, didn’t stop after one dose of SNSD. Instead, we ended up in-taking more and more, stepping further and further into the light of the Soshi fandom.
There are millions of routes we can take during our journey through life. No one knows where a certain path will lead or how long it will extend. But throughout of lives, each and every person desires to find the most fitting paths for them in order to live out the life that they desire. Many of us have crossed paths with each other, but how many of those paths have you walked on with over a million people at the same time? It’s truly amazing how so many people in this world decided to venture through the path of Soshi at some point during their lives. And want to hear something even better? The numbers of fans that walk this road have only grown in the years, rending those who stray away, an insignificant sum.
The girls have impacted our lives in ways we would have never found possible. The millions who have embarked through the Soshi path in life will see things differently from others. We will see things with unique perspectives only available to those who are willing to take the time and understand these nine amazing girls. Many in the world don’t understand. Perhaps they won’t ever understand because they don’t need to understand. But for those of us who do understand, even if it’s just a little bit, we instantly become part of something life changing.
Many years later in your life, maybe you’ll completely step out of this fandom. But you will never forget it. Years later, maybe when SNSD is no longer performing or all of us Sones have grown into grandmas and grandpas, we will never forget this chapter of our lives when we stepped through into this amazing light and called ourselves a Sone. One with nine girls. Like a mark that decorates our body, SNSD decorates our soul. A permanent reminder that we were once united as One. A reminder that we will always be part of a legacy.

It’s really funny how fast things can change in a span of a year. Just last July, I had never even heard of So Nyuh Shi Dae(소녀시대) and laughed at the idea of KPOP. The whole concept of boy and girl bands felt like a distant past for me, a reminder of my adolescent years, when Backstreet Boys, and Spice Girls were the most popular singers on the radio. Fast-forward to the present, and my thoughts have changed dramatically. Within a span of a year, I have become a real SONE and a serious fan of Korean pop music. In fact, just last week I purchased my first big SNSD product, their latest Photobook and DVD release, “Paradise in Phuket”. The purchase holds significance for me, a typically shrewd consumer. I rarely spend anything when it comes to music media, especially on a single artist, but the girls had won me over. After making the purchase, I actually reflected on how I got to this point as a fan. How did a non-korean Canadian get into this craze? Why did my opinions change so rapidly? True, the girls are universally gorgeous, pretty and cute. Yes, their music is catchy, and they can sing with the best of them. Their dance moves are addictive to watch, and their performances are full of energy. In terms of personality, the girls are the best variety idols out there with a knack for entertaining viewers with stories and humour. Separate, the girls are each unique and talented, but when they are together they form a one-of-a-kind formula that attracts and appeals to millions of people worldwide. Upon further contemplation I actually had an epiphany about what was responsible for getting me to this point, especially in such a short amount of time. I had discovered the Catalyst behind SNSD’s international popularity and how they managed to appeal to many non-korean SONEs like myself. Ironically it has little to do with the amazing 9 at all. While some of you might be wondering what the heck it is, it’s actually who. No it isn’t the hardworking managers, instructors, coaches, choreographers and trainers that whip the girls into shape, nor is it Lee Soo Man or the producers, that create the tracks and MVs for their songs. Actually the secret behind their success is actually you. That’s right; you’re the reason why SNSD has become popular across the globe. While some of you might disagree, from my perspective it’s absolutely true. Without the great and established fan base for the girls I wouldn’t have been able to call myself a SONE at all. Furthermore, I wouldn’t have been able to become a SONE so easily and within a span of a year. After all, it was this great community that managed to break down the barriers of distance, and language that allowed me (and many others) to become the fan I am today. For me it started with ‘Gee’, the YouTube video that has captured nearly 47 million views since it was uploaded approximately 2 years to this day. Without the fans repeatedly hitting that replay button and spamming it on various websites, I certainly never would have stumbled upon it. From there I was captivated by SNSD, and their catchiness and cuteness. Immediately I was redirected to the ‘Run Devil Run’ MV and was impressed by their charisma and talent to be able to change themes. Soon I found myself searching for “SNSD” while I was bored at my computer. These were my first steps on the journey of becoming a SONE. While browsing online, it didn’t take long for me to stumble upon user created videos provided by a wide range of SNSD fans across the globe. These clips varied from fan made tributes to factual videos that usually showcased how awesome/funny/gorgeous ‘X’ member is. In fact you could probably type in any adjective you want with an SNSD member, and a fanmade video would most likely pop-up. Many of these clips on YouTube were also filled with hilarious comments which provided me with a good laugh. Immediately I appreciated the SONE humour and spazzing. This open enthusiasm for the girls amazed me at the time. Never before had I seen so many fans go absolutely crazy over things like smiles, dorkiness and winking. This outspokenness also made it easier for me to be a fan. I didn’t feel an urge to slow my interest in the girls. More often than not, the comments also contained great information for new fans on what shows, videos or performances to watch. I remember specifically reading a comment that suggested watching “Hello Baby” and the fans guided me in the right direction. Soon I found myself watching Korean variety shows, with English subtitles. As a result I was exposed to a plethora of stories and experiences that the members shared with the Korean audience on these shows. I learned about the members as people rather than singers, and was able to connect with them on a personal level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ruaGdqcusg&feature=player_embedded While I watched these videos leisurely, in the back of my mind I also appreciated the contribution of the SNSD fans for making it all possible. They allowed me to understand the girls, and acted as the personal translator and guide for any foreign fan. After being viewing a ridiculous amount of video content, I finally found various SNSD online communities thanks to user comments. Needless to say, I became a member of these sites instantly, made a bunch of posts, and dabbled in the fandom. Finally I had a place to chat and read about the girls, with fans around the world, I didn’t feel as awkward being a Canadian SONE. It was as if I now had supporters that propelled me forward as a SONE. Becoming a part of the SoShi community was actually easy, fun, and rewarding. Instead of watching videos, I could now read a whole bunch of the fan submitted content that was readily available on sites around the web. I was also able to become more actively engaged by submitting responses to threads and posts. Admittedly I was shy when it came to posting, but eventually I got into it after I forced myself to hit the submit button. It didn’t take long to discover that many others shared the same views that I had of the girls, and at the same time, I was able to hear different perspectives that altered my opinions. Initially I underappreciated specific members of the group. However reading up on the thoughts of other outspoken SONEs, I soon began to appreciate those members on a greater level. Right now I can say that I’m a fan of all 9 of them, and wish them all the best (although I might be still a little more biased towards some of them). Likewise, the community did a great job of filling-in-the-gaps in my knowledge of the girls as a newbie fan. So even though I came to the SNSD party late, it felt like I was actually there the whole time. It took me a while to get into the whole “Soshi Pairings” idea, but I realized that a lot of it was amusing and entertaining. People found ways to put together members, and then found proof that they were “real”. It sparked debate, and made some fans create whole entire YouTube channels and websites dedicated to certain pairings. Most of which were actually cute and fun (a few naughty). Not only do we have videos, but there are also countless fan fictions posted online by SONEs for the fans. Unfortunately most of them creep me out, but this is further proof of the community’s dedication (and obsession) to share their ideas and thoughts on the girls. Even today, the SoShi Fan base continues to impress and surprise me with their initiatives for every SONE fan. The most obvious example would be our very own SNSDKorean podcast! I suggest everyone check it out if you haven’t already. As a Soshi fan it’s another neat way to stay connected and up-to-date with the SNSD news, in a commuter friendly format. I actually discovered the site by searching for “SNSD Podcast” on google. Not only do you hear news, but you also get some of that fun and entertaining conversation that always comes up whenever a bunch of fans get together to talk about their interests. While surfing YouTube for SNSD over the past few months I also found many individuals who now make video blogs (vlogs) talking about the girls, a growing trend. Generally, these vlogs contain opinions, news and reviews about their activities or promotions. A perfect example would be “TheChannelofDylan” a 16 year old Soshi fanboy from Missouri, USA, who actually has a SONE journey that is glaringly similiar to my own. What makes him special, is his ability to put out content consistently, and his overall bubbly personality. Combine that with an outspoken attitude and a real love for the girls, and you get an entertaining vlog, that fans can appreciate. As always SNSD fans across the globe also continue to share high quality fan cams and photos from events that the girls attend. Nowadays this type of activity is growing, and concerts are now filled with fans holding electronic devices, hoping to keep their own memory of the girls, while sharing it with the community. How great is it that SNSD can have a concert halfway around the world, and most of us can see them perform, almost as if we were there (but still very far away). I know for me I’ve watched my fair share of fancams, and while I wish the girls could come to Toronto, at least I didn’t feel totally left out. Therefore, while the girls are all attractive and interesting, it was the fans and their ability to share and create content that allowed me to truly become a fan of all 9 of them. Without this extraordinary community, I never would have been able to get to know the girls on a personal level, since they eliminated the big barrier of language. Furthermore, this fanbase was able to close the distance between me and the girls by uploading and sharing appearances by the girls in Korea and Asia, allowing me to enjoy them despite being half a world away. By taking away these hurdles, I was able to have a really they paved my path to becoming a true fan of SNSD. In a way my journey as a SONE has come full circle. After being on the receiving end of most of the community’s hard work, I finally decided to take on a bigger role and be a part of this catalyst for other fans. I sent in my application to the SK team, and now I find myself as a writer on the site. At this point I hope to be able to support other fans positively, just like the other SONEs before me. Of course I do not have the same practical talents, that previously dedicated SONEs have, but I have enthusiasm. I can only hope that the continued efforts of the community can continue to provide a smooth journey for all SNSD fans as they transition from fan to SONE. This type of communal growth and support for new fans will be essential for the 9 if they wish to extend their fan base to the largely untapped foreign audience abroad. - Steve

Well, it seems our dear maknae, Seohyun, did not just mindlessly while away her free time while she was in Paris with the rest of the Girls during the SM Town Paris 2011 concert. She actually kept a diary of her experiences there….
and it has been released for all and sundry to read and enjoy !
The diary-journal, entitled “Dream-like Life in Paris”, was recently published in the Issue Daily newspaper on the 13th of July 2011, under the heading “Seohyun’s Paris Diary”.
True to her honest and precise nature, our dear Seohyun stated in no uncertain terms that she would record her experiences whilst there in full detail, complete with her opinions as a young adult in her early 20s.
To top it all off, Seohyun even deigned it fit to provide photos for the article from her own camera (PD Seo in the making
?). Her recorded experiences of her first trip to Paris certainly provides for some very interesting reading and gives a very clear indication of the extent of the Hallyu Wave that is sweeping the world-at-large right now.
Right, on to the actual article itself. The posts are arranged in order, as published, and illustrated with the appropriate photos from Seohyun’s personal collection while she was there in Paris. Enjoy !
“Dream-like Life in Paris”
1. The Europe I dreamed of, the first in Paris, France.
2. Become a Parisian today! The world is wide and overflowing with things you don’t know.
3. This is Paris, France, and we are Korean singers, Girls’ Generation.

Become a Parisian today! The world is wide and overflowing with things you don’t know.
It is my first time in Paris, France! When we first arrived, everything was new and amazing, and I loved the different experience. But after the first few days, things started becoming more familiar.I made good memories at Montmartre Hill today. The Paris I saw from Montmartre Hill was stunningly beautiful. Ah, with the thought of wanting to save this moment somehow, I took lots of pictures and tried my best to preserve the image of the great scenery in my mind.
I also went to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica where the sight that greeted me in the back street was really wonderful. There were a lot of artists there, and the atmosphere felt so carefree and creative. I wonder how I would look like in a portrait drawn by a Montmartre artist… Therefore, I decided to ask for a portrait and sat down for 30 minutes with a fluttering heart. While waiting, I didn’t feel tired, but was excited imagining how the drawing would look like. Also, while I was seated and waiting for the artist to finish, I felt so proud and glad that I was able to make new memories outside of my regular life while I was in a new place. When I received the portrait, I felt a little peculiar. It was drawn very beautifully, but it looked a little more like a Westerner’s face than an Asian’s face. Nevertheless, I expressed my gratitude to the artist by saying “Merci beaucoup” and I left the beautiful Montmartre Hill with memories that I will never forget.
Afterwards, I went to the sorbet street at Ile St-Louis, which is a must-visit when in Paris. Everyone was holding an ice cream cone in their hand, and they said that it was a sorbet made only from fruits. There were long queues in all the stores that sold sorbets, but the wait was worth it as the sorbet which I ate was unforgettably refreshing. While I was in Paris, I ate a wide variety of the local cuisine. Usually, I don’t enjoy eating sweets, but when I was in Paris, I tried the traditional Paris cookie, macaroons, crepes and their chocolate. I also got the courage to try their escargot. However, out of all the different tastes, I thought that the sorbet was really awesome. During my stay in Paris, I really wanted to enjoy to my heart’s content all the different cultures and see the various sceneries, as well as experience the different moments.
While spending this happy day, many other interesting things happened too. The people living in Paris know us! They were not Koreans who were living in Paris, but they were the local French. They spotted us immediately and came up to ask us, “Are you So Nyeo Shi Dae?” Of course, we were extremely surprised. I mean, someone in a foreign country could recognize us! I was really shocked… They specifically called us ‘So Nyeo Shi Dae’ in Korean, and not “Girls’ Generation”. Also, there were a lot of people who said, “It’s really nice meeting you, and I’m going to watch the concert,” and others who said, “I really like So Nyuh Shi Dae’s music, and I’m French,” in English. I didn’t think that anyone would know us, but I was simply amazed and grateful that so many people recognized us before the actual concert took place.
I made another enjoyable memory in Paris today. Hwaiting Girls’ Generation, Hwaiting South Korea!
Maknae’s Paris Musings-Part 2
The second part of our favourite maknae’s diary musings whilst in Paris is out….
This portion of her Parisian experiences is entitled:
The Europe I dreamed of, the first in Paris, France. Enjoy !!!
Oh my goodness. Scenes which I’ve only ever dreamed of were unraveling before my two eyes. I saw the beauty of the Seine River which I’ve only seen in movies, watched the leisurely and free Parisians milling about, and smelt the sweet scent of chocolates and macaroons. We were given an off day today before the SMTOWN LIVE in PARIS performance, and while I was pondering in my happy dilemma of where I should go first, my interpreter unnie spoke to me.
“Where would you go if you ever came to Paris?” She asked.
I replied without hesitation, “The Eiffel Tower! And then I want to go to the Château de Versailles, and the Notre Dame de Paris, The Sacré-Cœur Basilica, the Arc de Triomphe, the Musée du Louvre, and the Paris Opera!”
Whew~! I was overflowing with places I wanted to go to.
After hearing the places which I wanted to see, unnie responded, “I’ll tell the driver where you want to go. Paris is even smaller than Seoul, so most probably we’ll be able to visit a lot of them.”
I was truly delighted and grateful, and I felt incredibly happy.
First, we started out by going to the Arc de Triomphe which was at the western end of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. They said that it was constructed in remembrance of the soldiers who fought and died in the Napoleonic Wars, as well as the French Revolutionary. Be it from afar or up close, the Arc de Triomphe looked so beautiful when I saw it that I almost couldn’t believe it. Being able to see Arc de Triomphe in real life is unbelievable when I’ve only ever seen it in history books.
With an elated heart, the next place I visited was the Château de Versailles! It was a place which I’ve held of a fantasy of since childhood, and it was a place which I definitely wanted to visit one day. The Versailles, which contains memories of the famous Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette! The wide and endless sight of the Château juxtaposed with the blue skies was so blissful. Even though I was saddened to hear that the Château was too large for me to completely explore, just the fact that I’ve visited the Château de Versailles which I’ve always dreamed off makes me happy.
The next thing to see was the Eiffel Tower! I’ve anticipated it for so long! It was built for the Exposition Universelle, a World’s Fair back in the 1880s. However, many Parisians were said to have thought that the tower was an eyesore and that it looked insightful. It’s truly fascinating how it eventually became the iconic landmark of Paris, and even France.I viewed the Eiffel Tower from the Palais de Chaillot, and it was simply wondrous and beautiful. No words would be able to explain the beauty. Also, because I vowed to take a picture of the Eiffel Tower which would come at as beautiful as possible, I remember having to spend a long time taking the pictures until it came out pretty. Oh yes! You can’t forget the Notre Dame de Paris! Be it the interior of the cathedral or the exterior walls, the artfully crafted and designed details were simply jaw opening.
Ah, the Parisian sun only sets after 10! I think it’s a country with quite a long day~. However, it’s because of the long days that I could go to all these places and experience them. And so, this happy day which I spent experiencing the culture of Paris drew to a close…
Maknae’s Paris Musings Part 3 – Reflections on SM Town Paris
The third installment of Seohyun’s diary series from Issue Daily has been published! She will be releasing 2 more, thanks to the electric response of the readers/viewers of the site. This particular excerpt talks about her experience performing in front of the heavily European crowd, a new one for her.
It’s amazing how strong her writing skills are, and I look forward to reading more from her in the future. Her writing flows very well and she does a great job of conveying her feelings and emotions. I can definitely tell shes been studying really hard, and is living up to the Super Smart Maknae reputation.
Here’s the excerpt written by SNSD’s Maknae:
This is Paris, France, and we are Korean singers, Girls’ Generation.
It is finally the day of the concert! No, it’s not Girls’ Generation’s concert, but SMTOWN LIVE in PARIS! That explains why I saw so many familiar faces. The feeling of meeting all my seniors and juniors who have been busy with their own schedules is really good!During the SMTOWN LIVE in PARIS rehearsal, everyone greeted each other and asked each other how they were doing. It was so enjoyable and very pleasant for all of us to perform together overseas! Especially since all the seniors and juniors performed on stage with their individual uniqueness and colour. Through this way, we helped to compliment the pros and point out the cons, and it led to the concert becoming so much more meaningful.
Out of all the different special stages, I had the chance to have a duet stage with Super Junior’s Kyuhyun senior. It was so nerve-wracking, but enjoyable too at the same time. I created a meaningful stage in Paris with Kyuhyun senior by singing “Way Back Into Love”. As it was my first performance in Paris, I wanted to make sure that it would be a performance I would never forget.
Kyuhyun senior’s soft and soothing voice is really excellent! Of course he sings well! There was some pressure in having a duet performance with such a senior, but on the real stage, I was very relaxed and happy. Kyuhyun senior tried his hardest to make it easier for me, and as I think back now, I am extremely thankful and grateful towards him. Without Kyuhyun senior’s thoughtfulness, it would have been very difficult. I am so thankful.
It is finally Girls’ Generation’s stage!
When I had been doing the duet performance with Kyuhyun senior, I couldn’t really see the audience very well because I was too focused on the song. However, when I was on stage together with my members, all the people in the audience came into my view one by one. At the moment, it was impossible not to be surprised. Everyone was European and they dressed in really great outfits. Even with just a glance, it seemed like the place was filled with French fans and fans from all over Europe.
Although it was not perfect, the fans were singing our songs in Korean and they cheered for us. I started tearing when I heard them because I was so thankful and grateful towards them. It was a different feeling compared to performing in Asia, and the new feeling struck my heart.
Still, an unfamiliar scene was right in front of my eyes, and until now, I can still remember their various expressions. They tilted their heads, smiled, cheered excitedly, applauded, and then listened to our songs with bright smiles. After each performance, they would rise up from their seats and give us a thunderous applause. It was such an amazing and emotional moment, and I kept repeating in my head, “We are Korea’s Girl’s Generation.”
After the performance of “Run Devil Run”, “Tell Me Your Wish”, “Gee”, “Kissing You”, and etc, I felt like the members and I got a lot closer to the unfamiliar audience by performing passionately. We greeted the audience with our imperfect French, and they in return shouted “Girls’ Generation!” with their imperfect Korean. During this time, I felt like the concert was at its peak.
With music, we became one, and shared a generation heart to heart.
Seohyun’s Parisian Musings-Part 4
Our dear maknae’s ongoing Parisian ruminations are now out in print…..
Well, it seems that Seohyun’s diary recollections on her experiences whilst in Paris for the SM Town Paris 2011 concert has garnered alot of positive support on-line from netizens and fans of the Girls.
Issue Daily, the newspaper that is currently publishing Seohyun’s diary records for all to enjoy has clearly stated that all they have done so far is some minor grammatical and spelling corrections to the submitted articles, the gist of the diary entries still being from the original manuscript from Seohyun of SM Entertainment’s SNSD.
So far, only positive comments have been expressed intentionally by both SONE’s and casual fans alike towards the articles.
Here, then, is part 4 of the Seohyun Diaries (Enjoy !!!):
Korean wave in Paris, spreads to the entire Europe
How did the Paris people see us? I was really curious. Perhaps it was all due to the power of culture and special Korean fever that made us receive so much support from the people. At least I think this way. How much effort did we put in before standing at this position now?
Perhaps this is also the reason that created peaceful competition between idol groups. Our members always work to the best of our abilities, encourage each other, while aiming to become the best.
As we continued singing songs like “Run Devil Run”, “Genie”, “Gee” and “Kissing You”, the concert venue was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. The moment we stood on the stage, we forgot about the fact that we were in France, and we started to sing. It was great to see that the audiences enjoyed those moments; we also felt a sense of satisfaction being Korea’s So Nyeo Shi Dae.
Not only us, sunbaes and hoobaes like TVXQ, Super Junior, SHINee and f(x) performed together while we stand united as SMTOWN. The concert ended successfully as we put in all our efforts and the audiences gave us their greatest supports.
I realized a lot of things after today’s concert.
I realized that even though we could not communicate, even though our features were different, we can become one through the power of music. I realized that although our languages and cultures were different, we can become one through the power of songs. Lastly, I realized that if we are willing to share happiness together, its amount will be doubled.
All of us in the SM family marked today as the start of a bigger dream. We want to share more happiness with the people around the world. We want to share simple things like love, dream and happiness to more and more people in the world, through our music.
The profits that we earned from this beautiful Paris trip were ‘love’ and ‘touched hearts’. It seems that nothing in the world will bring more peace and security other than music. That’s why I am proud to be a singer, and a part of SMTown. SNSD Hwaiting! Our dreams and hopes, hwaiting!
Our fans, thank you very much. We came back after our hard works. Please continue loving us in the future. Hehehe.
In conjunction of Seohyun’s birthday and also Sports Korea’s 7th anniversary, an interview with SNSD’s maknae was conducted. Here is the content of the interview: SK: First of all, happy birthday. Seohyun: Thank you. Happy birthday to Sports Korea too. SK: Do you know there is a special bond between yourself and Sports Korea? Seohyun: I was surprised to hear about that in the past. I think the reason is because Sports Korea always writes good articles. Haha. SK: How did you feel? Seohyun:I thought that this is the kind of fate we wanted. In the future, please watch over me. Am I being too serious? Haha. SK: We made a collection of articles from SNSD’s debut to the present day. We want to give you this as a birthday gift. Seohyun: Wah! It’s first time I’ve seen this. (silently read the articles for some time) This is something new as I used to only see this on the internet. You’re really giving this to me! This is an unforgettable birthday gift. I have to show this to my unnies. SK: It feels as if this is the first individual interview you had after debut was yesterday. Seohyun: That’s right. Then, I knew nothing. I didn’t know what to talk about and what kind of article will be produced. SK: (Points at the article) seeing your appearances during debut, how do you feel about it? Do you feel shy or feel like hiding? Seohyun: Not at all. The bangs made me look really cute. It’s good to look at my old appearance again. SK: In the past, you mentioned in an interview that you would like to act in a Japanese drama. Seohyun: I still have that dream now. I was into ‘Nodame Cantabile’ last time and recently I’m interested in ‘Glow of The Fireflies’. I hope there will be a day when I get to act in a Japanese drama. SK: At that time, you have not embarked on your Japanese activities. Looking at these articles, it seemed as if SNSD’s advancement to Japan was predicted. Seohyun: Haha. That’s awesome. It was a dream that became a reality. Although we worked hard to achieve that goal, i think people around us also helped us. The name ‘Girls’ Generation’ itself contains a dream, right? It’s none other than establishing an era where girls’ shine in the whole world. From ‘Girls’ Generation’ to the time when it becomes ‘Grandmothers’ Generation’, let’s do it together. SK: When was your most memorable moment? Seohyun: It was during our first broadcasted performance where I stood with the members on stage and we cried. I thought it was finally the day we show ourselves to the world after the hardships we endured during the trainee days. I think I will never forget those moments. Looking at the past interview, I felt amazed and decided that we should not forget about our original intentions. However, unknowingly, there have been changes among us bit by bit. That is what I’m afraid the most. I’ll try to stay the same always. SK: Recently, there were a lot of talks about the concert in Paris. Is the Korean Wave a reality? Seohyun: Yes, definitely. Due to the continuous efforts by the seniors, it seems that the Korean Wave are getting the attention now. We don’t think it’s something that comes out of a sudden. I think we are lucky that we are carrying out our activities now. We also have to be sensitive to the responsibility at hand. We have to open the path now so that in the future, others can embark on their overseas activities more successfully. SK: What is the individual work that is memorable to you? Seohyun: I did a duet with Joo HyunMi sunbaenim. It’s because she is someone my parents like. I could not believe I had a chance to do a duet with her and I was really nervous. She held my hand throughout our performance and that was how I was able to complete it. Thinking about it now, I’m really thankful to her. SK: Since you debuted at a young age, are there any complications? Seohyun: The difficult part is that every single action or issues, even if it’s really a small one, people would take notice. I have to be very careful with anything I do. Now that I’m used to it, I feel very thankful even if someone take a small interest in me. SK: It’s Sports Korea’s 7th anniversary. Would you like to say something? Seohyun: It’s always nice meeting reporters from Sports Korea. Are you going to be hardworking and trustworthy? Please give us good articles in the future. How about always giving good news about SNSD too? Greetings to you all. Please stay tune. Credit: hankooki.com translate by fanwonder

Last year, with overwhelming performances Girls’ Generation has swept over Japan. This time with a live tour they will show their valuable abilities in Japan and across Asia. With the Japanese single “MR.TAXI/Run Devil Run” and the album “GIRLS’ GENERATION” leading the way, a full scale generation of girls has come to Japan.
- On a certain day in April, in Korea -
Interviewer: Congratulations on getting a live tour in Japan!
SNSD: Thank you very much!
Interviewer: Feels like the fans have been waiting, but how is your enthusiasm?
Jessica: (looks around) Is it OK if I start?? With the tour almost starting, I’m looking forward to traveling with everyone!
Hyoyeon: I’m really hoping to be able to eat a lot of good food.
Tiffany: Hyoyeon suddenly brings up food. (laughs) I’m looking forward to meeting the Japanese fans.
Sooyoung: I…
Yuri: Yuri’s turn!
Sooyoung: Hey, that was sneaky! Speaking before me! (laughs) Times like this I want to talk first! (Since there are 9 members, they overlap in talking)
Yuri: (laughs) I’m looking forward to it because we’re going to perform songs from the new album for the first time. I want to prepare and show it on stage as soon as possible!
Sooyoung: Ok, my turn! Because it is the first time we can travel around with the Japan staff, I’m looking forward to meeting fans and working together with the staff.
Seohyun: In the interview when we released ‘Genie’, we were asked what our dream was and we answered with a Japan tour. For that to come true so fast is very miraculous and I’m looking forward to it!
Sunny: Although it is our first tour in Japan, we have experience once in Korea so I want to use that as a base. For us it’s the second tour, but the first tour in Japan and it’s also a chance to power up, so I’m looking forward to it.
Yoona: In Japan we were in Tokyo a lot, but I want to know more about Japan besides Tokyo. In this tour it is not just Tokyo; we will meet a lot of fans at various locations and it’s a good chance to know more about Japan. I’m so excited!
Taeyeon: I love it when fans wave the penlights! I’m looking forward to the sparkling lights when the seats are filled and everyone waves the penlights all at once.
Interviewer: When you first heard you’ll be doing a tour in Japan, what did you think?
Taeyeon: Yay!
Tiffany: Like that. (to Taeyeon) Say it again one more time. Ready~
Taeyeon & Hyoyeon: Yay!
Sooyoung: When I first heard about it I was happy, and as each place was decided I thought, ah, I’ll be standing on stage there, too. I’m very excited.
Seohyun: When I first heard? I didn’t know if we can quickly make it reality, but doing a tour in Japan is a dream for us. Because that dream came true so fast it’s wondrous and we have to prepare well.
Interviewer: Not just in Korea, but you have experience doing concerts in other countries. When you heard about the Japan tour, did you feel that there’s anything different?
Taeyeon: From what we heard from our seniors who worked in Japan before us, the environment of Japan’s concerts are good and depending on the place the atmosphere is different, so while the number of concerts increases, we can improve even more. I’m looking forward to that.
(Interviewer suddenly says to the translator) You really are translating simultaneously.
Hyoyeon: [Japanese] It’s amazing. (laughs)
(Sooyoung deliberately gives the recorder to the translator)
Hyeoyeon: [Japanese] Ah, Japanese study!
Sooyoung: [Japanese] Study, study.
Interviewer: We got off topic. Ok, what do you think, Yoona?
Yoona: I felt very wonderful. Like Sooyoung said, when each place was determined, I started to feel it more and more that we are really doing a Japan live tour.
Sunny: Ah, again the other members answered…
Yoona: Times like this having many members is troublesome…oops I said it.
SNSD: (laugh)
Sunny: Honestly, we had experience doing concerts in other countries, but because this is the first tour, I was a little worried about how the fans would be different than Korea’s. But actually, even going overseas our fans are the same and while preparing for the tour, I believe if we show them ourselves as usual they’ll be happy.
Interviewer: You experienced the showcase labeled ‘Girls’ Generation arrives to Japan!’ at Ariake Coliseum on August 25th, 2010 and after that ‘SMTOWN LIVE in TOKYO’ (January 25th & 26th, 2011 at Tokyo’s Yoyogi Stadium), what do you think of the Japanese fans?
Hyoyeon: They watched us perform very intensely! Of course while concentrating they also cheered us on. Japanese fans watch us very intently while we sing and after it’s over they all cheer at once. I was moved with that image.
Sooyoung: During our first concert in Japan, they all cheered the same as the fans in Korea. I didn’t know if Japanese singers’ fans also have set chants, but in Korea there are and in a way, that’s Korean culture. They all memorized it in Korean. For example in ‘Genie’, there’s the line ‘sowoneul marhaebwa’ (tell me your wish), after that phrase the Japanese fans said, ‘marhaebwa’.
Manager: Marhaebwa!!
Hyo, Fany, Sunny: Like that!! (pointing to manager)
Taeyeon: I want to ask the fans how they memorize such hard choreography, but from what I’ve seen I think memorizing the chanting and cheering is also hard!
Interviewer: So that was the first impression. The fans researched and memorized the cheering.
Taeyeon: Yes!
Yuri: I was deeply moved then! At first I wondered if they knew our songs, but I was surprised when they came with the memorized chants.
Interviewer: I hear in Korea you have a lot of male fans, but in Japan there are a lot of female Girls’ Generation fans. I think they suddenly pay attention to your fashion when they see you, but are there any main points of your costumes this time?
SNSD: The costumes haven’t been determined yet! (laugh)
Yoona: Too bad!
Yuri: Even if there is a fashion highlight, I wonder if they can copy it.
Jessica: It’s because it’s very flashy!
Tiffany: Last year, the same happened in the tour in Korea, there was one main point in the costume changes and sets. This time with the Japan tour, I think we can expect a lot from the costumes. It’s because we look forward to the costumes at our Girls’ Generation lives.
Interviewer: I see, it’s not decided yet.
Yuri: Yes.
Taeyeon: We’re also looking forward to it!
Interviewer: When you have concerts, do you feel happy when wearing the dresses and costumes are seen in this way?
Seohyun: Um…
(a bug flies around Sunny and she cried out)
Other SNSD members: (laugh) Sunny!!
Sunny: [Japanese] I’m sorry!
Interviewer: Your Japanese is good!
SNSD: (laugh)
Interviewer: Alright then, Seohyun.
Seohyun: When we stand on stage, rather than our individuality, all members will often show one definite united impression with our costumes. I want to see that too!
Tiffany: Costumes are just one vital part of a concert. The same as song, performance, and dance, for us, costumes are a big point!
Jessica: Because there aren’t a lot of chances to hear our voices close on stage, at each city we visit I want the fans to hear our voices live. If we can send our feelings I would be happy.
Interviewer: Ah, Jessica you were spacing out. (laughs) Talk about costumes became talk about concerts. (laughs)
Jessica: Ah, sorry! I involuntarily changed the topic. (laughs)
SNSD: (laugh)
Sooyoung: It came up on the talk about costumes earlier, but I have a slightly different opinion. Before, when the Eagles came to Korea, we went to the concert, but the members appeared wearing Y-shirts and old looking shorts, while playing guitar and singing. Even though it wasn’t a special performance, I was very moved. I want to perform impressively even without the costumes and special effects. Although a gorgeous costume is fine, but above that I want the fans to pay attention to our music and performance.
Interviewer: I know you came to Japan many times, but when you walk around do you like Japanese fashion? In what way?
Hyoyeon: It’s very individualistic. Especially for women, age doesn’t matter, I think everybody has their own individual style. It’s so individualistic that I don’t think you can say “this kind of style!”
Jessica: There are a lot of rare items in Japan and I end up buying it. We often do mix and match fasion.
Sooyoung: [Japanese] The way they layer clothing is interesting. Japanese people are good at that. [Korean] They’re also good at matching colors. I think they often match their socks and shoes.
Interviewer: What about you, Yuri?
(Yuri is dozing, zzz)
Hyoyeon: [Japanese] Yuri-chan is sleepy! (She just finished two photo shoots and 2 magazine covers shoots.)
Yuri: I’m fine! (laughs) Whenever we’re free when we go to Japan, we go shopping! Japanese people are good at their own styling! Japanese girls are especially interested in fashion. There are a lot of different magazines and lots of information on fashion. I learn a lot when I go to Japan.
Seohyun: When you say fashion, it is something to express yourself with. I can see Japanese people have a lot of self confidence. When I see them wearing what they want and not embarrassed to express themselves, Japanese females really have self-confidence. Even in fashion there are a lot of unique items and I often think how interesting it’d be to take in this kind of fashion.
Interviewer: What do you think, Tiffany?
Tiffany: It’s probably the same as what the other members said. When I read Japanese magazines I want it all! When we receive sample magazine shoots, we think “let’s go to this shop and that shop”. Japan especially has cute pajamas! I remember we all went to a pajama store and buying a lot.
Hyoyeon: Before I had interest in nails, but every time we come to Japan, we all…
Tiffany: Japan style. We changed our nails to Japan fashion! (to Hyoyeon) Right!
Hyoyeon: Yes. Everyone!!
Seohyun: They become glamorous. (laughs)
Tiffany: But before they were plain…
Taeyeon: They weren’t plain, right? (laughs)
Interviewer: You do your nails in Japan?
Tiffany: Yes! At Japanese nail salons.
Interviewer: I see. Haha, OK, next is Taeyeon!
Taeyeon: Hmm..around now, I forgot the question… What was the question?
Everybody: (laugh)
Interviewer: Right, we changed the topic to nails.
Manager: Fashion and style.
Yoona: Ah, still about that.
Everybody: (laugh)
Taeyeon: Japanese fashion really continues to move forward. I often read Japanese magazines. After that I feel the same as the other members.
Interviewer: The answers are gradually becoming similar. (laughs) What about Yoona?
Yoona: When I see Japanese fashion, there are a lot of cute styles!
Tiffany: Sexy! Sexy!
Yoona: Why?! (laughs) Me?? I often find cute clothing. If I have a lot of time, I want to go here and there, but there are more and more people who notice me. I’m happy but…I end up troubling the store. Since there are still a lot of stores that I haven’t gone to yet, I want to go!
Interviewer: Alright, Sunny!
Tiffany: Sunny really suits Japanese fashion.
Sunny: What I see…
Taeyeon: There are brands not in Korea!
Sunny: Probably…don’t say it Taeyeon! Why does everyone say what I’m going to say first?
Taeyeon: Nine answers about one topic, we said so right?
Jessica: Size!
Sunny: I suit Japanese size.
Interviewer: You fit the size?
Taeyeon: Mini size. (laughs)
Sunny: I’m not mini!
Interviewer: The perspective changed. Next moving on, you will go to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. What Japanese food are you looking forward to?
Yuri: Takoyaki! Takoyaki! (fried octopus balls)
Hyoyeon: Ramen!
Tiffany: Now what worries me is that there’s a lot of good food in Japan and everyone will gain weight! No really!! It’s natural to always gain 2 kilos. I worry about that. But because I usually like drinks, snacks, and boxed lunches, and everything, I’m looking forward to each region’s special food.
Jessica: [Japanese] Really? [Korean] Getting fat. That’s not good.
Sooyoung: [Japanese] Yes. Near Osaka-jo Hall there’s that boat, right? It’s there.
Taeyeon: You said you’ll eat pear?
Sunny: You’ll eat a boat?
*boat and pear have the same pronunciation*
Interviewer: That boat? You’ll eat a boat? Boat???
Manager: Taeyeon and Sunny thought it was pear.
Interviewer: Ah, that’s what it is.
Sooyoung: [Japanese] I want to ride that boat and sight see!
Taeyeon: Since I don’t know what each place’s famous food is, I’ll ask about the region’s recommendation and eat that!
Interviewer: I’m sure the fans will tell you.
Taeyeon: I think so!
Interviewer: You’ll get to learn about delicious Japanese food from now. But before you talked about ‘hitsumabushi’? (fried eel over rice)
Sooyoung: [Japanese] I heard about it from our manager.
Interviewer: I see, hitsumabushi is delicious!
Manager: Fukuoka has motsunabe (hot pot with beef or pork offal). But it’s not spicy like Korea’s. It’s famous food is a hot pot like samgyetang (chicken soup/stew).
Sunny: OK. I get it. The talk ends here!
rest of SNSD: Ah, Sunny ended the conversation! (laugh)
Interviewer: Motsunabe is also very good.
Manager: Sapporo has crab. Hiroshima has okonomiyaki (Japanese style pancake). When they go they’ll know famous foods, but not now.
Hyoyeon: When we go, please treat us!
Manager: Uh…I understand…
Sooyoung: [Japanese] Since hot springs are famous, I want to go to a hot spring!
Interviewer: How about Fukuoka then?
Sooyoung: [Japanese] Is Fukuoka famous for it?
Interviewer: If you go a little from Fukuoka, there are a lot of hot springs.
Sooyoung: [Japanese] Let’s go! Let’s go!
Hyoyeon: [Japanese] Let’s go!
Interviewer: Since there really isn’t a time where you guys are not excited when talking about food, (laughs) on the other hand, do you have Japanese foods that you don’t like?
Tiffany: Internal organs.
Yuri: [Japanese] Cow tongue.
Manager: But there’s cow tongue in Korea too.
Jessica: Cow tongue.
Interviewer: Ah, Jessica also doesn’t like cow tongue.
Sunny: We don’t have a lot a foods where we don’t eat. Everybody eats really well.
Tiffany: Sunny eats everything well! (laughs)
Manager: How about horse meat sashimi?
Yoona: Never had it before!
Manager: They also have horse meat sashimi in Kyuushu too.
Yoona: If I try it once and it’s delicious, I’ll eat it!
Sunny: Even if you treat me to it, I’m not sure I can eat it.
Hyoyeon: Well it’s not like the manager will treat us.
Manager: …
Tiffany: Everyone is full of curiosity so I think we’ll try eating it!
Interviewer: There aren’t too many foods you guys can’t eat then.
Yuri: That’s not true.
Interviewer: So Sunny is the only one who doesn’t have anything she can’t eat?
Taeyeon: I can’t eat sea squirts!
Interviewer: Sea squirts are no good? What about Yuri?
Yuri: It depends how the food looks?
Manager: So like sannakjii (eating live octopus)?
Yuri: That’s fine. Thinking about it, I don’t really have a standard for foods I don’t like.
Taeyeon: So stuff that looks gross?
Yuri: I can’t eat cow tongue and internal organs.
Interviewer: Do you have any food that you don’t eat, Seohyun?
Seohyun: Nope!
Sunny: She doesn’t have any.
Tiffany: What about hamburgers?
Seohyun: I can eat hamburgers.
Taeyeon: Boendegi (silkworm puppae).
Seohyun: I can eat that!
Hyoyeon: Boendegi are a chunk of protein. Good for a diet.
Manager: There’s no boendegi in Japan.
Yuri: [Japanese] It’s not in Japan?
Interviewer: Probably not.
Hyoyeon: It’s full of protein and the best for a diet.
Seohyun: From a Japanese perspective, eating raw chestnuts seems to be thought as odd, but you don’t eat raw chestnuts?
Interviewer: Yes, not raw.
Taeyeon: Do you eat it roasted?
Interviewer: Yes!
Hyoyeon: We love raw chestnuts!
Seohyun: In Japan, Hyoyeon and I were walking and eating raw chestnuts and when people saw us, they gave us odd looks.
Hyoyeon: We were surprised!
Seohyun: I was really surprised.
Taeyeon: Something we can’t eat? (to Yoona) Umeboshi (pickled plum), right?
Yoona: I can’t eat it!
Tiffany: [English] In my bag! [Korean] I love umeboshi! It’s always in my bag!
Interviewer: What about natto (fermented soybeans)?
Hyoyeon: [Japanese] I like natto.
Tiffany: [English] (I can’t stand the) smell.
Interviewer: I see, there are a lot of people who can’t take the smell.
Yuri: Everyone has their own food preferences.
Interviewer: Jessica can you eat natto?
Jessica: Natto? [English] No!!!! (shakes head)
Interviewer: Same with umeboshi?
Jessica: I can’t eat it…I have a lot of foods I like and dislike.
Interviewer: Alright, its suddenly time for GIRLS’ GENERATION 1st TOUR Goods Corner!!!
SNSD: Yay!!!!
Taeyeon: Alright, now it’s part 2!
Yuri: I wonder if Japanese fans will buy the tour pamphlet that we’re interviewing for now.
Interviewer: They will, they will. I think many will buy it!
Yuri: In Korea there’s no tour pamphlet, right?
Manager: Yes.
Taeyeon: But there are for operas and musicals.
Yuri: That’s why the system to make a pamphlet for Japan is very mysterious!
Interviewer: Japanese fans buy it to commemorate going to a concert. Alright, now its time for the goods! First is the ball pen!
Taeyeon & Sooyoung: [Japanese] Cute!!!
Sunny: [Japanese] I want it.
Jessica: I also want it!!!!
Manager: Ball pen.
Interviewer: Alright, next is the T-shirt!
Taeyeon: Around the ending of the concert, we’ll probably be wearing this.
Yoona & Tiffany: Let’s wear it! Let’s wear it!
Interviewer: Penlight!
Seohyun: Pretty!!
Manager: It’s pink!
Tiffany: Pink! Pink! I love pink!!!
Manager: This comes with the ticket.
Interviewer: Next is the mirror!
SNSD: Mirror!!!! Cute!
Taeyeon: I want it!!!
Sooyoung: [Japanese] Will we also get everything??
Manager: [Japanese] Of course!
Sunny: [Japanese] Of course, of course.
Sooyoung: Yay!
Interviewer: Next is the mug cup with lid!
SNSD: Wow!!!! That’s cute! I want it!
Sooyoung: [Japanese] Cute!!!!
Yuri: [Japanese] What color? Is it white?
Interviewer: The color is white with gold.
Sunny: It comes with a lid!
Sooyoung: [Japanese] It comes with a lid!!! I understand!!
Yuri: (claps) [Japanese] Amazing! Amazing.
Interviewer: Next are the cookies.
Sooyoung: Cookies!
SNSD: Kyaa!! Amazing! (Yuri waves her arms around)
Manager: These are cookies!
Sooyoung: [Japanese] It’s like Girls’ Generation Land!!
Taeyeon: Are all the goods sold separately?
Manager: Of course! The fans choose and buy the goods they like.
Taeyeon: [Japanese] The cookies are cute!
Interviewer: Alright, next are the towels!
Jessica: They’re so cute!
Hyoyeon: If everybody has a towel I’d be happy.
Interviewer: This is the bigger tower. This is the smaller towel.
Yuri: (to the managers explaining the towel sizes) You’re like merchants!
SNSD: (laugh)
Yuri: [Japanese] This is cute!
Interviewer: Next is the carry home paper bag that can hold everything.
Tiffany: It’s like a shopping bag!
Interviewer: Next is the planner. There’s a calendar inside.
Yuri: [Japanese] I want it!!
Manager: It includes a calender and everyone’s birthday is also written in it!
Interviewer: Next is the key holder.
Sunny: This is cute! I like it!
Jessica: I also like it!
SNSD: This is also cute!!
Interviewer: Scrunchy!
Sunny: Girls put it on like this. Cute!
Manager: Recently in Japan, many people wear them around their wrists and not on their heads.
Sooyoung: If people wear this it’d be easy to spot fans!
Sunny: This is very cute!
Yuri: Very cute!
Interviewer: Next is the clip.
Tiffany: If it’s this cute I definitely want it.
Manager: It holds paper here. It only holds letters.
Yuri: They made this and that. There’s everything.
Yoona: Amazing! Fun!!
Interviewer: OK everybody, there’s a lot of goods here, but which do you like?
Yuri: This, the mug cup. It’s especially nice since it comes with a lid. And the handle is shaped like a heart.
Sunny: I recommend the cookies!!!!
Taeyeon: [Japanese] I choose this (penlight)!!
Interviewer: Taeyeon, everybody who goes to the concert will get one.
Taeyeon: Ah, I see!
Seohyun: [Japanese] I choose the towel!
Yoona: We have to choose? It’s all so cute I can’t choose!
Tiffany: I just look at it and want to buy it.
Sooyoung: I think I’m so troubled I don’t know what to choose. Even when I was in New York and saw a musical, I wanted the related goods. I wanted it all but when I think of my wallet…
Hyoyeon: Sooyoung, you’re nice!
Taeyeon: This is really cute. [Japanese] I choose the pen.
Jessica: Key holder!! I’ll always have it on!
Tiffany: (to Yoona) You’ll choose that, right?
Yoona: The mirror is nice, I recommend it!
Hyoyeon: I choose the planner!! I’ll use it!!
Manager: The planner? Hyoyeon says she chose the planner.
Hyoyeon: [Japanese] I also want the towel! I want them both…
Yuri: Even something small…
Interviewer: What do you choose Tiffany? The scrunchy?
Tiffany: Because it’s pink!
Seohyun: Actually I want the ball pen!
Interviewer: Seohyun changed to the ball pen. What about you, Sunny?
Sunny: I choose the cookies!!!
Interviewer: Alright, one last thing. Please one by one say a message for the fans in Japan.
Yoona: One by one?
Sunny: Aaaah, I’ll speak first!
*SNSD scrambles to get the recorder. Me! Me! They will say it before me!!!!
(Sooyoung takes the recorder and starts to speak)
Sunny: No no!! There’s the camera!
Yuri: (Towards the camera) Thank you very much for coming. I love you all.
Sunny: Yuri is talking to the camera!
Hyoyeon: Please look forward to it!
Manager: One by one briefly.
Sooyoung: [Japanese] This is really funny.
Interviewer: Pass around the recorder.
Sunny: Ah, Jessica isn’t here!
Interviewer: Huh??
Manager: Ah, she’s back!
Interviewer: Alright, let’s pull ourselves together.
Sooyoung: OK, I’ll start! When I saw all the same penlights waved at the same time during the showcase, I was very moved. Everybody made a wave with the same pink colored penlight. When we see our seniors’ concerts, each artist has their own symbolic color. From the seats, it’s like seeing fireworks and I thought, “If this was pink it’d be so pretty”. Of course in Korea and in other countries when we held concerts we saw it countless times, but the scale of this tour is big and I’m looking forward to being able to see an even bigger pink wave. I always have a new feeling every time I stand on stage, but since its the first tour in Japan, I want many people to hear our songs and I’d be happy if they send their support. [Japanese] Please look forward to it.
Interviewer: Ok, next is Taeyeon!
Taeyeon: Hyoyeon?
Interviewer: No, no. (laughs) Taeyeon!
Taeyeon: I’m sorry…I was joking around. (laughs) I want the audience to have fun watching the stage. Please treasure the goods and I hope you’ll never forget it.
Interviewer: OK, thank you very much. Alright, Hyoyeon.
Hyoyeon: I think fans are coming to see it with expectations and because we don’t want to lose to the fans, we are trying our best to prepare and I want to have fun together. I want to have fun while on stage and with the fans in their seats. I’ll try my best to have a great performance and for the fans to take back good memories.
Interviewer: Ok, thank you! Alright, Tiffany.
Tiffany: Like what was said before, we are really preparing many things. It would be great if the fans watch our concert and when they go home they’ll want to go again. It’s our first tour in Japan, but I want it to be a start for them to see Girls’ Generation every year from now.
Interviewer: Ok, next is Seohyun.
Seohyun: A concert is day for just us and the fans. The time for a concert is time for us and the fans. Right now we are also eagerly anticipating it and I think the fans are also awaiting for the day of the concert. I will practice dance with everything I got so that on the day of they can hear the best of our singing and receive our energy! Please look forward to it!
Interviewer: Sunny, please.
Sunny: I think there’s a true charm in doing a tour. Going to many different cities is a tour’s charm. Because I think the fans are looking forward to the tour as we are, if we can have a fun time together, when the tour ends something new is born. I want to share those memories.
Interviewer: Thank you very much. Alright, Yoona, please.
Yoona: Although I’m very nervous, I’m looking forward to a lot of fun experiences that seem to be waiting. Because from now this is the start from Japan, I would like them to watch over us to the end.
Interviewer: Thank you. Ok, Jessica, please.
Jessica: Because it’s our first tour in Japan, I think everyone is looking forward to it. Since we are preparing a lot of things and I want to show a new image, I want us to have fun together. And I will be happy if they remember it as a good memory from this year. When they look back on this year, it would be great if they think of Girls’ Generation’s tour.
Interviewer: Ok, Yuri.
Yuri: First, I thank the fans who bought the tour pamphlet from the bottom of my heart. This is our first tour in Japan, but I’ll be happy if I can share a memorable tour with everyone. I will give my best to make a wonderful performance, so that they can anticipate the next concert. From now please have many expectations and interests. Also, I will be happy if we can be together on our 10th tour in 10 years.
Interviewer: Ok, thank you very much. That’s a wrap!
SNSD: [Japanese] Thank you for your hard work!
